In the twinkling of an eye

It can all change.  The chaos and all.  The house was so longer clamoring with guests, the Reporter was relatively silent, the food was all gone (at least the fun stuff), all the decorations in boxes, and the attic sparkling (well, as much as rafters and insulation can sparkle).  My Christmas fichus is once again just a fichus.  And now what?  Football.

TCU wins the Rose Bowl against a much larger Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl, a season disappointing Alabama smashes higher ranked Michigan State, and a just-out-of-diapers Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat New Orleans, last year Super Bowl winners.  Freeman, Tampa Bay quarterback, looked like a borrowed player from the neighboring high school.  They are the first team to start over ten rookies and end with a winning season.

Love those end of the season games, but after a few games I was footballed out.  I entered my receipts into Quicken, calculated our estimated tax debt from Turbo Tax (and cried), and made a pot of chicken cilantro soup for the rainy day.  I love cilantro and thought its smell would raise my spirits.  I mean if they bottled it, I’d wear it as perfume.

But the day drug on.  I flipped the remote through all three hundred channels we have access to, and not one intriguing show.  How is that even possible?  Finally I settled on a series I’d stopped watching last season.  In those missed episodes, there was a death, two divorces, someone came out of the closet, a son quit med school, and arch enemies moved on.

My husband commented, “See, boring is good.”  Maybe he’s right.  It’s just not very fun.  But in the twinkling of an eye, it can all change.  I’m not holding my breath.

Here’s to a fun-filling and prosperous New Year’s to you all.
