When you are a young mother you long for a day when you have no plans, no place you have to be, nothing urgent to attend to — no boys’ soccer practice to sit through, no gymnastics class to take girls to, no baby or wedding shower to attend, no house to clean (at least not like having an overnight guest where you have to clean upstairs, too), no church meeting, no school program. You think the day will never come.
Then one day out of the clear blue literally, it does. Saturday morning was perfect. We had spent the night after a wedding near Oceanside. White fluffy clouds floated in a azure blue sky. The warm temperature was cooled by an ocean breeze. Rolling hills were beginning to show off their spring colors.
We slept in (at least until seven in the morning) and headed out for an afternoon of relaxation and appreciation for a day with nothing to do. After traveling to an handpicked destination, I texted Coco, the horticulturist, “Wish you were here. Thinking of bamboo.” Incidentally, San Diego Botanical Gardens has the largest display of bamboo anywhere, for anyone interested.
Don’t ever give up. Nothing can happen when you least expect it.
