Ooohs and aaahs

This Thanksgiving added many small and large memories to the collection.

View of Salt Lake City

    • Clear weather for make a fast drive to Utah (if you call eleven hours fast — lots of traffic).
    • Loads of good fixings to eat.
    • A sister who, after a debilitating bout with chemotherapy and radiation, is looking better every day.  She thinks Billy Crystal’s, “It is better to look good than to feel good” is bunk, but she puts on a brave face.
    • Camaraderie with my two sons, two nieces, and two nephews.  Lots of laughs and walks down memory lane.
    • Phone calls to chat with three grandkids.  The GAP prepared her first turkey alone, and Coco brought her yummy potatoes.Clownfish
    • I love the fact that Hot Wheelz has a hobby that uses names I can pronounce, unlike when Coco talks “plant” about her hobby/profession.  So instead of Amphiprion we simply call the new fish in his aquarium “Clown.”  Can you guess what he looks like?  He seems to fit in to our family so well.
    • The gym four days in a row!  “Mom,” Cheezy stated after suggesting a few debilitating exercises, “I’m really proud of you on your workout.”  I didn’t tell him he almost killed me.  “Hold onto one of these spindly barbells, jump back, push up, jump forward, stand, stretch the barbell overhead.”  He and Dawn, my yoga instructor, must be getting together.
    • Hitting the Black Friday discounts with Couponman.  We picked up five packets of our favorite chili flavorings for 99¢ each.  I wonder whose Christmas stocking one of them will end up in?
    • A visit to the newly constructed National History Museum where we lightly (thank heavens I’d visited the gym) walked over dinosaur bones encased in plexiglass.

      • And beautiful scenic views.  (Okay, it’s not just me who takes bad photography, it happens anywhere I am!)

Overlooking the SLC Natural History MuseumSo as we bid adieu to Utah, there is sadness, but excitement to head home and sleep in my own bed.

What ooohs and aaahs did you experience this holiday weekend?

  1. Great list! I’m happy to hear your sister is looking better every day. Hope she’s feeling better every day, too.

    Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving!

We played a fun game of Taboo where half of us were Korean, one barely speaking English! Lots of good food, laughs, and more laughs. Thanks to my sister for a great Thanksgiving with friends and family.

We didn’t have any spectacular scenery, except for the grandkids’ shining faces, but we had a lovely holiday as well. I skipped Black Friday in favor of taking grandkids to the park and just hanging out.

Not any oooohs and aaahs but a few phews! Putting up decorations on Sunday when it was 85 out! But I was not complaining — at least it wasn’t snow!

California’s heat is probably why we weren’t freezing in Utah. It was in the 40′s everyday, and even one day hit 50. The mornings at 29 degrees were another story!

No ooohs or aaahs here either. In fact the left at home said it was a “gay” Thanksgiving. Guess they like all the craziness of all plus more at home (guess they would since they grew up with it). I cooked (which I enjoy doing) and I GOT TO SEW!!!! I made a dress-up dress for Madi for Christmas. Making a dress-up collection for her and her sis to play with. I hit Joanns for their flannel and fleece sale and got enough to make about 10 baby blankets. Now just to find time to make those. Sounds like you had a great time. Good! :) )

What fun! Your very own dress up clothes. I always had to dig in my mom’s closet, and since she only one straight dresses with a drawstring waist, it wasn’t very versatile.

Nice list–next year I think I’ll hitch onto your Thanksgiving!
