I need a vacation from my vacation

The week-long party is over and I’m ready to go back to normal

Universal Studio in DecemberI’ve survived yet another gigantic Christmas breakfast fit for a glutton.  This time I downsized, beginning my cooking only three days in advance.  I’ve survived leftovers.  I don’t need scientific proof to know food doubles when you place it covered in the refrigerator.  I’ve survived loads and loads of dirty dishes (though my manicure didn’t).  I’ve survived crumpled wads of festive wrapping paper and opened cardboard boxes.  I’ve survived the insanity of traveling to an amusement park with long, long lines during holiday break with a group of nine, both tall and small, Grinches (after the heart change, of course).  I’ve survived wolves doing puppet shows (at the Natural History Museum) and giants causing earthquakes by padded blocks (at the Science Center).

I’ve avoided scales,
end of season sales,
white tie and tails,
even the engagement party for the Prince of Wales.

I’ve relished having my family around me.  I’ve relished in fun (and practical) presents like a 150 drill bit set.  I swear four of the tips look like darts.  I can’t say anything since one of my gifts to Hot Wheelz was a scrubbing sponge.  I thought I was being observant since I couldn’t find one in his kitchen during my last visit.

Mas Guapo seasoningI’ve relished in the passing of one tradition — Christmas dinner to Coco.  Or actually by her friend, a gourmet chef.  Only one small problem.  He must have used that Mas Guapo  seasoning mix that the GAP gave him for Christmas.  Nothing a razor can’t fix.

No photoshop, honest!

I’ve partied in pajamas,
with the grandkids’ mama,
enduring normal family drama,
all thanks to Obama.

I’ve sighed a goodbye to loved ones twice as they’ve boarded planes to return home.  Of course, they can’t travel on the same day!  And then returned two hours later to pick Hot Wheelz up when his flight was cancelled.  Then returned him to the airport again, only to have his flight diverted to Las Vegas, and arriving well into the morning hours by the time he finally reached Salt Lake.  He could have driven there with hours left over.  Ain’t flying grand these days!

And now I’m doing something for me!  I’m sleeping in until 7:00 a.m. and then going to work!
