Les Mess

Grandkids 2012Back by (un)popular demand,
To fight Chanukah and Christmas stress
The Wheeler-Orland household releases
Their 2012 holiday sonnet, “Les Mess.”

“At the End of the Day” before Santa arrived
“I Dreamed a Dream” my house was all aglow
“Lovely Ladies” had come in and decorated
But “Who Am I” kidding?  There’s not even snow.

“One Day More” would not have helped me unpack
From months of travel while I trained attorneys
The suitcases surround us, like “At the Barricade”
Still we loved seeing family and friends on our journeys.

There’s a single Chanukah snow globe on the table, set there by
Phil, the retired “Master of the House” (or so he whines)
Our effervescent 7-year-old granddaughter, the Worm boasts,
“We got it at Costco for $13.99.”

“Do You Hear the People Sing?” Jingle Bells, you ask,
No, the noise is from the two lively grandsons “In My Life.”
Avid reader, the Bug (9) and the Mouse (2), man of many faces,
Doing all they can to make me smile, reducing strife.

“Bring Him Home,” I said to Hot Wheelz after he asked
If Bruce his dog could come with him for the holidays.
Cheezy and Coco will be there, too, along with Mr. Greenjeans & the GAP
The more the merrier, I always say.

I am basically “On My Own” when it comes to Christmas breakfast
All the “Beggars at the Feast” will be there in the morning,
Including the newlywed couple, daughter of brother Kelly.
Madison and Ryan eloped last week, without much warning.

After the holidays, I’m left with “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables”
But “A Little Fall of Rain” or clutter won’t scare us away from celebrating,
So “Drink with Me” (Martinelli’s) for the hopes of great next year,
And all the joyful times your life can bring.

We wish each of you “A Heart Full of Love” to get you through the woes and wows of 2013.

See you at the movies.

Great! I love it. I always copy and save you Christmas poems. Thanks!

Really good job of integration, Penny! I personally can’t wait–glad it’s not much longer!–to see Hugh and Russell in one of my favorites! I think I saw Les Miz on stage at least 10-11 times.

Merry Christmas to you guys, too!

    Love, Valerie
