Happy everything

Path of irisesIt’s no secret that Easter is my favorite holiday.  Irises line the walkway to my home.  You expect to see the Easter bunny himself hopping in between the colorful flowers.  Spring and Easter signify new chances at anything you choose to latch your dreams to.  But to be honest, I’m  a little behind on the holidays.  So when Coco was unable to close the plant nursery for the day, I told her we’d bring Easter to her.  I failed to mention the celebration might also be reminiscent of a few not too far in the past holidays.  The GAP agreed to the plan and her young family made the fifty-mile trek to Westwood, too.

Candy carrots hung from trees, and chocolates wrapped in foil bug paper hid amongst the many varieties of plants.  My Easter egg hunts are always popular with favorite candies and even a golden egg for every adult in attendance.

Before everyone filled up on sweets, I set the picnic table.  I have to admit when I brought out the corned beef and cabbage, there was a little dissention.  I reminded them, there would be a lot of Irish Catholics jumping for joy at this Easter meal.  I explained that the egg and noodle kugel, perhaps an uncommon side dish for corned beef, had been prepared for last week’s Seder dinner.  Instead it had been relegated to a corner of the kitchen and remained uneaten.  Who knew you weren’t supposed to combine meat and dairy on Passover?

Then for the treat.  I’d sent Couponman to See’s Candy for our traditional decorated candy egg for all.  But he surprised us with his deal of the week — one giant decorated egg.  It looked like the offspring of an ostrich.  “What flavor is it?” I asked.

“I dunno,” he answered.

“You got this at See’s?”

“No, it was on sale at Costco.”

I didn’t know Costco had sales.  I picked up the heavy box.  “Chocolate soy,” it read.

Nothing worse than trying to make something good healthy.  Guess we won’t be creating too new traditions this day.
