Eleventh in line

Everyone goes to therapy these days.  Even my husband, the Couponman, and me.  I told him I wanted to go to marriage counseling because I felt I wasn’t number one in his life.  “Where do you think you fall?” the therapist asked.

“Tenth,” I replied.

He looked surprised.  “Just who does he put in front of you?”

“Well, there’s Couponman, Couponman, Couponman, Couponman,” I answered, counting on my fingers, “Couponman, Couponman, Couponman, Couponman, Couponman, then ME.”

We’ve all felt like we don’t finish first on some list, right?  How would it feel coming to earth with ten ahead of you already?  Well, my son-in-law did just that.  As the youngest in a family of eleven, I imagine he either had way too many bosses, or was left to fend on his own, getting lost in the crowd.

Thank heavens, Mr. Green jeans came out as a survivor.  He’s learned to not take himself or others too seriously.  He values the time his children have at home, and supports my daughter in her wishes to be a stay-at-home mom.

Our place in life all depends how we look at it.  Sometimes when the road is long and rough, when we’re so very far behind, we can choose to think we are in first.

Happy birthday, Steve.  Have a great day.  You’ve worked your way up the ranks with grace and patience.
