Basketball’s most devoted fan

Yellow basketball jersey    Green basketball jersey

I know a few weeks ago I mentioned I didn’t like basketball at all. But that was before the last three minutes of game 7 with the home team ahead by six. There I was yelling and screaming like the most dedicated fanatics. You would have thought I actually knew them by name, not just “yellow” team and “green” team.  Someone asked me to be more specific, so I answered the “marigold yellow” and “kelly green” teams.

I liked the tall guy best. Correction — the “really” tall guy.

I was forced to watch the sport all by myself and banished to another room. Our family is not known for good sportsmanship. I loved running the sidelines and yelling at my sons’ soccer games. But my behavior mortified my sons, and I was given rules for game day.

You see, winning and losing makes me nervous. I pace, scream, and that’s just during the commercials. When the green team had the ball, I had to turn the television off, wait thirty seconds or so, and turn it back on to see the damage. While it may not be the best way to watch sports, it does sounds like an inventive way to handle family. Actually the Rip Van Winkle technique sounds most promising — go to sleep when the kids turn thirteen and wake up twenty or thirty years later.

During the end of the game interviews, I liked the “other” tall guy who thanked his psychiatrist for calming him down. I need a referral. I’ve never been calm.

Go, yellow team! Congratulations, Lakers. Too bad for the green team. I really like the little shamrocks on their costumes.
